The last warm sunny days have seen me doing some final planting for the year, preparing a new bed for a mass planting of Lavender, so cultivating the soil and watering in have featured high on my job list this week.

This is also the perfect time to plant spring cabbage, they will grow away quickly in these sunny days and will be ready to cut in the spring.

The great gardens like Keukenhof are full of spring colour, because of all the bulbs they plant in October and November.

The first frosts tend to come around the end of October and so now is a good time to think about moving tender plants into the greenhouse, or wrapping them in fleece.

As the final gardening jobs get completed I love giving my trusty gardening tools a good service, sharpen and cleaning them before storing them for the winter…

I also love to bring a little bit of summer indoors for the winter, so potting up herbs like French Tarragon to bring into the kitchen windowsill is high on my list of priorities…
